The Nigeria Custom Service (NCS), Zone B, Kaduna said it has intercepted over N1.14 billion worth of contraband between January and August 2017. The Comptroller of the Command, Aminu Sahiru made the disclosure on Wednesday in a chat with NAN in Minna, the Niger State capital. He hinted that a total number of 1, 357 items such as illicit drugs, mosquito coil, furniture, tyres, tin tomatoes, vegetable oil rice and drones among others were seized during the period.
Dahiru assured that the NSC would sustain efforts toward ensuring that smuggled items do not find their way into the country.
“We have declared war against smuggling and have deployed competent officers to man all identified illegal routes used by smugglers to bring in unwholesome goods into the country. We have taken concrete measures to stop illegal importation of banned goods in order to contribute our quota in the promotion of Made-in-Nigerian goods,” he said.
He called on stakeholders in the area, particularly traditional rulers to Mobilize border communities to cooperate and support all operations by NSC to rid the country of contraband items.
