Grammy Awards 2023: Beyoncé, Viola Davis, Tems Bags Achievements

Beyoncé won a record-breaking 32nd Grammy Award, while Viola Davis has become the 18th person to achieve the EGOT, before Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, Tems bagged her first-ever Grammy award under the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category. On the same night, Hip-Hop celebrates her 50 Years anniversary.

The 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony was filled with glamour, record-breaking moments, and reunions. South African comedian, Trevor Noah was the host for a second time at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 5, 2023.

The 27-year-old Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Tems won the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her role in ‘Wait for U’, a 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.

Meanwhile, Viola Davis became the third Black woman in HISTORY to achieve EGOT status, joining Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Hudson. The actor Sunday has now won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards (EGOT), after taking home the gramophone for best audiobook, narration and storytelling.

Beyoncé on the other hand made history as she won best dance/electronic album for her euphoric dance opus, Renaissance. She is now the most rewarded grammy recipient after overtaking Hungarian-British conductor George Solti, whose record of 31 Grammys had stood for more than 20 years.

On the night, the hip-hop community celebrated their 50 years anniversary with artists from the genre’s past five decades performing; including Big Boi, Black Thought, Busta Rhymes with Spliff Star, De La Soul, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Missy Elliott, GloRilla, Grandmaster Flash, Ice-T, Lil Baby, The Lox, Method Man, Nelly, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Rahiem, Rakim, RUN-D.M.C., Salt-N-Pepa, Scarface, Swizz Beatz, and Too $hort.
