There is tension in Kenya as opposition leader Raila Odinga prepares to be sworn-in as President of Kenya on Tuesday. NAN reports that already, hundreds of his supporters have gathered at Uhuru Park, downtown Nairabi to witness his inauguration although security forces had warned that the act was treasonable and would not be condoned.

China has described reports it bugged the African Union (AU) headquarters as "preposterous".

Kuang Weilin, the Chinese ambassador to the AU, told reporters in Ethiopia the "absurd" claim in France's Le Monde was "very difficult to understand".

He spoke out three days after the newspaper published an article claiming data from the Chinese-built AU building was being copied to Shanghai.

The new African Union chairperson, Paul Kagame, has said that ‘Free Movement’ for Africans ‘is achievable in 2018’. Free Movement which is part of the African Prosperity Agenda would entail the implementation of continent-wide visa free regimes including issuance of visas at ports of entry for Africans.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has officially taken over as the new Chairman of the African Union (AU). The vote took place on Sunday during the Heads of State and Government Summit, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Kagame took over the chairmanship from Guinea's President Alpha Conde at the 30th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government, within the framework of the 30th AU Summit.
