EU To Establish New Money Laundering Agency

The European Union Commission has stated that it is planning to establish a new supervisory authority to combat money laundering, among other measures, according to documents seen by DPA on Saturday. The plans indicate that a new “Anti-Money Laundering Authority” will be able to impose financial sanctions on its own in case of violations of EU rules.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres has re-appointed Nigeria’s Amina Mohammed to serve as Deputy Secretary-general for a second term. Speaking with journalists after taking the oath of office for a second term on Friday after the UN General Assembly re-appointed him, Guterres said he had extended an offer to Mohammed to continue in office.

Pope Francis To Visit Slovakia, Budapest

Pope Francis has announced that he will be visiting Slovakia between 12th and 15th September after a brief stop in the Hungarian capital of Budapest. He announced the trip at his Sunday blessing in St. Peter’s Square. It will be the pope’s second trip outside Italy this year, following one in February to Iraq. Trips planned for 2020 were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Vatican said in a separate statement the pope would celebrate a Mass on the morning of Sept. 12 in Budapest to close the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress.

G7 leaders will sign an agreement that is aimed at preventing another pandemic like Covid-19 from happening again. The group who is meeting face to face for the first time since 2019, at a beachside venue in Cornwall, southwest England, after the coronavirus led to the cancellation of last year's summit, consisting of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States, joined by leaders of Australia, South Africa and South Korea, along with India taking part remotely.
