The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) in a statement revealed that the Federal Republic of Germany and Nigeria have signed a 29.9 million Euros agreement in support of polio eradication programme in the country.
The Head of Public Relation Unit of NPHCDA, Mr Saadu Salahu, made this known in the statement on Saturday in Abuja.
According to Salahu, the agreement was the ninth of such financial accord and support for polio eradication in Nigeria by Germany.
Salahu said the accord was signed in Abuja by the trio of Ms Regine Hess, the Deputy Head of mission for Germany in Nigeria, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign affairs, and Dr Faisal Shuaib, the Executive Director of NPHCDA.
Mr Onyeama was delightful over the age-long cordial relationship maintained between the two countries and their leaders.
He also appreciated the German government for not only contributing immensely in polio eradication but equally to other relevant sectors of the Nigeria.
The Minister also acknowledged concerted efforts by the Nigerian Government and other organizations in the quest for eradicating polio including WHO, UNICEF among others.
The statement also quoted Hess expressing delight over her country’s sustained support for polio eradication in Nigeria.
She was optimistic that Nigeria would soon join the rest of the world as a polio free nation.
Shuaib on his part, listed some of the massive financial commitments made by the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration towards polio eradication in Nigeria, adding that Nigeria committed N9.8 billion in 2016, N4.2 billion in 2017 and N4.1 billion for 2018, for polio eradication programmes.
