The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) have said Persons Living With Disability who wish to sit for the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can register at no cost. The JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this while explaining the registration process for interested candidates across the country which commenced today (Monday), 15th January 2024. "To support the PLWD, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of Persons Living with Disabilities in the advertisement for the 2024 UTME/DE," Oloyede said. Oloyede, said the board has placed adequate measures to ensure a smooth exercise for all candidates, adding that audiobooks will now be provided for all blind candidates. He noted that the development was a digital adaptation of the traditional reading book, noting that it will come in popular audio formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA which will be compatible with all devices that can stream audio records.
The registrar further said apart from the blind candidates, other groups to benefit from the free registration according to the examination body are people with Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
"The following categories of candidates will now be listed under the disability group: Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)," he said.
Also, the sales of Direct Entry application documents and E-pin vending will commence on Wednesday 28th February and close on Thursday 28th March 2024.
The JAMB Public Communication Advisor (PCA), Fabian Benjamin has said the dates were based on the series of recommendations emanating from a two-day Information Technology (IT) and Management Retreat held between 26th and 28th, November 2023.
He said candidates are expected to print their examination slips as from 10th April 2024.
According to a memo by the board, UMTE and DE exercise registration processes will remain cashless to prevent extortion and warehousing of candidates at CBT centres.
"JAMB would collect and remit to centres all the approved charges on behalf of the CBT centres along with its UTME registration fees. Just as it was done the previous year, candidates would go to any CBT centre for registration without paying anything," the memo said.
