The Nigerian army has on Friday cleared air that it has never lost control of Baga town in Northern Borno as against report by some section of media that the insurgents have overrun the town. The statement was issued in Maiduguri while speaking on behalf of Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, by Maj-Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, the Training and operation officer shortly after presentation of the new military operation in the northeast according to NAN.

Adeosun disclosed that the brave troops effectively repelled the attack, gave a hot chase to the insurgents and successfully secured the town and its environs and took control.He said, Boko Haram had on Wednesday attempted to attack a military base located at Baga town, however were immediately repelled by the gallant troops.


The military commander in his statement, “We have taken control of Baga. I am talking about the position of Baga as at yesterday when we stabilised the situation.


“Baga is not in the hands of the Boko Haram insurgents; I repeat Baga is not in the hands of the Boko Haram terrorists, they contested and lost.”


Misleading report earlier indicated that the insurgents had overrun the fishing town on Nigerian boarder with Chad and Niger Republics, and hoisted their flags the circumstances which made the dwellers flee. The Army want to assure Nigerians that Baga town is in their control and people should disregard the earlier information.


Brig. Gen Usman Kukasheka revealed, “The troops alongside Nigerian Navy counterparts engaged the insurgent and gave them a hot chase, where they repel the attack throughout the night, while Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE sent in reinforcement that are in hot pursuit of the terrorists.


“The Nigerian Air Force detachment has also been mobilised and are engaging the fleeing terrorists. Unfortunately; a naval personnel was killed in action.”
