Nigerian Army has accused Amnesty International of working to destabilize Nigerian state in its recent publication where they accuse Nigerian security forces of committing various forms of human right abuses. This was contained in a statement on Monday by Brigadier General Sani Usman, the Nigerian Army spokesperson. in his statement,
"The Nigerian branch of Amnesty International that has hitherto been well respected has deviated from the core values, principles and objectives of the original Amnesty International domiciled in the United Kingdom"
According to him, there is a convincing information that the Nigerian branch of the International Non-Government Organization have concluded plan to destabilize the Nigerian state.
He added, this was figured out through their fictitious and fabricated allegation, targeted towards demining the Nigerian security forces with allegation of human right abuses. this was demonstrated through their involvement in clandestine sponsorship of dissident groups to protest against the government, as well as unfounded propaganda directed against the leadership of the Nigerian Military.
He further revealed that, over the years, the Organization have tried using different tactics, ranging from Boko Haram terrorist conflict, Islamic Movement in Nigeria, some activist and now herders-farmers conflict.
The Army General revealed that soon, the Organization is planning to unleash yet another concocted report against the Military, supposedly to paint Nigerian Army in a bad light.
The Army warned that “Nigerians should be concerned that Amnesty International (Nigeria) are set to cause more confusion in Nigeria than it meets the eye which is to destabilize it more.
He warned that, the Nigerian Army has to call on well meaning Nigerians for the closure of such Organization in Nigeria, otherwise the recklessness will continue unabated.
