The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) sitting in Abuja on Wednesday said it has launched an application tagged ‘Crime Record Information Management System (CRIMS). The move followed the formation of a committee by President Buhari to be chaired by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrauf Aregbesola. The Committee was reportedly mandated to address requirements on security criteria as issued by the United State and other foreign countries.
Recall that the United State American Government had on Friday, January 31st slammed the immigration ban on Nigeria. The document which was signed by the United States President, Donald Trump will take effect from February, 22.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the application was launched by the Minister, Aregbesola who directed the NFIU and other similar government agencies to capture and secure the DNA of all criminals in Nigeria.
The Chief Executive officer of the NFIU, Mallam Modibbo Tukur said CRIMS would guarantee instant data access to all Law Enforcement Agencies, Judicial officers, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
He added that the tool will also be deployed to the Nigerian Military, all Police stations as well as the Custom and the Immigration outposts.
Tukur revealed that all crime suspects whom their data has found its way into the system would be pooled into the central database which will be accessible to all security outfits afterwards.
Mohammed Jiya, the head of ICT at the NFIU explained how the application will be operated, saying it could be used on both android and iOS smart devices.
He further explained that the application could access local databases such as properties and identities, financial transactions, telephone details and contacts of all suspect captured.
