The House of Representatives has commenced process on a law that would discourage medical tourism embarked by some public office holders.

The Bill sponsored by Rep. Sergius Ogun (Edo-PDP) seeks to prohibit international trips for medical treatment by public officers without approval and strengthen health institutions for efficient service delivery.

Ogun said on Wednesday that the bill comprising of 13 clauses was necessitated by the need to address the abuse of opportunities by public officers who seek medical treatment abroad.

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum has formally reacted to the statement released by former President Olusegun Obasanjo advising President Muhammadu Buhari to shelve his plan to seek second term in 2019. In an interview with Vanguard, the President of the Forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima said the content of Obasanjo's statement is the same message the Forum has been preaching all along. He said although Obasanjo and Buhari are the same, the message is clear and must be heeded.

The Presidency on Tuesday reacted to a recent letter released by former President Olusegun Obasanjo advising President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu told State House correspondents that the Presidency would not respond to the letter just yet. When pressed further by reporters he said "We won't comment now"

The Federal Government has responded to a strongly worded letter written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo urging President Buhari not to run for election in 2019. The ex-president had accused President Muhammadu Buhari of performing below expectation, advising him against running in 2019.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday amended the Electoral Act to change the order of 2019 general elections’ time table.

This came barely a month after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the time-table for the general elections.

With the amendment, the National Assembly election is to hold first, followed by gubernatorial and state assembly polls and the presidential election to be conducted last.

The amendment was made at the Committee of the whole House, presided by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Yussuff Lasun.

The President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Mbasogo has called for collaborative efforts to ensuring peace and development of the continent. Mbasogo made this known when he visited President Buhari on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He described coup plotters in the country and also the Boko Haram terrorists as dogs.
