Former Commissioner of Police, Lagos state, Abubakar Tsav has warned state governors against attempts to establish state police to facilitate effective policing of the country. The retired senior police officer issued the warning on Thursday while speaking with select journalists in Lagos. 

Human Rights activist and renowned lawyer, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has berated the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for doing little to identify looters and recover stolen funds. The lawyer who was recently awarded Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) made his position known in a series of tweets on his handle @fkeyamo yesterday.

Yesterday, the Governors Forum set up a six man committee to fashion out modalities for the establishment of state police. The committee was made up of representatives from the six geopolitical zones. The Chairman of the Forum, Gov. Abdulaziz Yari who made this known while briefing State House correspondents stated that the move was prompted by the peculiarity of security challenges confronting the various states.

The Yola Division of the Court of Appeal on Thursday discharged and acquitted former governor of Adamawa State, Mr Bala Ngilari, who was earlier sentenced to five years imprisonment without option of fine by a Yola high court.
