President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerian workers to reject the sale of the national cash cow, i.e. NNPC and refineries privatization with their votes in the upcoming general election. The President made this statement at the International Conference Centre, Abuja while declaring open the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) delegate conference.
President Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation(SGF) Boss Mustapha. The SGF revealed the Buhari administration is committed to improving the welfare of Nigerian workers through making sure they get a good welfare package through the ongoing plan to increase the national minimum wage.
The SGF added that the government is making sure that energy is directed on addressing the areas that concern the Labour movement in the country.
In his words, “On two issues you raised, it requires a confirmation and affirmation from delegates at this conference.
He reiterated that, as the Labour rightly pointed out, the Nigerian Labour movement is totally opposed to the sale of our refineries and also the privatization of our NNPC.
Speaking further, he pointed out, “The impression I will leave is that any candidate that is determine to the sale of our refineries and also the privatisation of NNPC will be squarely rejected by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC.
In his contribution, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, represented by Dr. Aminu Gusau said EFCC requires the support of the Nigerian workers to conquer the anti-corruption war which is one of the footrests of this administration, therefore appealed to the NLC leadership to team up with him.
“These collaborations with Labour and other Civil Society groups are hinged on the understanding that the EFCC cannot confront the monster that corruption has become in our society alone. It is a fact of life, that a tree cannot make a forest; such effort requires that all hands must be on deck, to achieve such an action.”
