One-time Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Nasir El-Ruafi, has revealed his intent by withdrawing himself as one of President Bola Tinubu Ministerial appointees. It was gathered from sources from the Presidency, that El-Ruafi had met with the President on Tuesday after 45 out of 48 Ministerial nominees were screened, stating that his interest in becoming a Minister was forgone, but promising to contribute his part to the development of Nigeria behind the scene.
Subsequently, it was alleged that the former Governor suggested a replacement for the ministerial role in person of Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, a former commissioner in three ministries in his state as a worthy candidate to undertake the task ahead.
“He also told the president that he needed time to focus on his doctorate program at a university in The Netherlands,” one of our sources said.
President asked El-Rufai for time to review the petitions and the SSS report to the Senate to enable him to reach a decision. Spokesman to El-Rufai, Muyiwa Adekeye, is yet to speak on the matter.
The former Kaduna State governor during his screening at the Senate on Monday disclosed that Tinubu specifically asked him to work with the government on the power problem facing the country.
The Senate confirmed all 45 other ministerial nominees including former minister of state for labor and employment Festus Keyamo whose nomination was most recent and faced stiff opposition from the lawmakers during his screening.
