NMA Urges NASS To Pass National Blood Service Commission Bill

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in its efforts to encourage voluntary blood donation in the country has called for the immediate passage of the National Blood Service Commission bill by National Assembly as well as the immediate assent by President Muhammadu Buhari. President of NMA, Prof. Innocent Ujah this in a message to mark this year’s World Blood Donor Day titled “Celebrating the Gift of Blood” expressed dismay over Nigeria’s inadequate annual blood requirement, saying the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends 2,000,000 units annually as against Nigeria’s 1,000,000 unit.

FG Returns Ibori £4.2 Million Recovered Loot To Delta State

The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, yesterday, said the £4.2 million recovered from former Delta State governor, James Ibori, which the Federal Government recently repatriated from the UK has been returned by the Federal Government to the state. Mr. Idris made the above known on Tuesday in Abuja when he appeared before the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Assessment and Status of All Recovered Loots Movable and Immovable Assets from 2002 and 2020, headed by Adejoro Adeogun. “I know there was a time recovery was made on behalf of Plateau State,” Idris said.

$65M FRAUD: Presidency Dissociates President Buhari From Kumo

The Presidency has distanced President Muhammadu Buhari from Gimba Yau Kumo, who was recently declared wanted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with a $65 million fraud at the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN). However, in a statement yesterday, by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the Presidency described the attempt to link the alleged fraudster as “an attempt to generate views and sell copies of sensational reporting”. According to the statement, the alleged suspect was indeed married to an unnamed member of the President’s family but clarified that the said marriage ended sometime back. Addressing the supposed relationship between President Buhari and the alleged suspect, the Presidency noted the ongoing prosecution move by the ICPC only supports the authenticity of the administration’s fight against corruption, not minding who is involved. The ICPC, in a list of wanted persons posted on its website, declared Kumo wanted alongside Tarry Rufus and Bola Ogunsola over the alleged fraud.

Bauchi State Governor Appoints New Chief Of Staff

Following the dissolution of the entire cabinet of Bauchi State and the sack of political appointees on Wednesday, the governor, Bala Mohammed has appointed Aminu Gamawa as the new Chief of Staff, Government House, Bauchi. The appointment was disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Mukhtar Gidado on Monday in Bauchi.

INEC To Resume Voter Registration June 28

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has on Wednesday disclosed that arrangements to resume the continuous Voters Registration (CVR) has been concluded and set for June 28, 2021. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made the disclosure during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja. The INEC Chairman noted the commission was working towards upgrading the CVR software to accommodate the newly established polling units.
