The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) plans to hold its Policy Committee meeting next Monday and Tuesday to determine the cut-off point for the 2017 admission. In a statement issued by its Head of Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, in Abuja, the agency said the meetings will kick-start the 2017 admission exercise.

Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) led by Ralph Uwazuruike has insisted that the forthcoming Anambra state governorship election must hold as scheduled. The group described those calling for the boycott of the election as enemy of the South East and called on the people to ignore the call and participate fully in the exercise by registering in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to enable them cast their votes in November.

Senate

The Nigerian Senate has threatened to issue a warrant for the arrest of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Glo Mobile and other firms that failed to honour its invitation on alleged complicity in N30 trillion revenue probe. News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the Senate gave the 16 companies who failed to appear before its committee a deadline of Thursday to honour the invitation or risk being arrested.

President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday night called the governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, to commiserate with him and the people of the State over the Ozubulu Church attack. The Sunday morning attack on St. Philip Catholic Church, Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area had claimed the lives of 11 worshippers and 18 others injured.

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (ACF) have insisted that the earlier quit notice issued to all Igbos resident in any part of the Northern region to vacate the region before October 1 remains valid contrary to media reports that the notice has been withdrawn. The Chairman of the Forum, Shettima Yerima who made this known on Thursday in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna however added that Igbos who are interested in the unity of the country would be allowed to stay in the region without let or hindrance.

The Senate President, Sen. Bukola Sarki has continued with his scathing criticism of the strategies adopted by the Presidency and the Ibrahim Magu-led Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) in the fight against corruption. Speaking yesterday in Abuja, Sen. Saraki lamented that the ongoing anti-corruption war was focusing mainly on recovery of loot instead of building a virile system to curb corruption in government.
