As part of efforts to boost citizens’ participation in the 2019 General elections, Akwa Ibom state governor, Udom Emmanuel has tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to expand the locations of the Continuous Voter Registration to accommodate residents of riverine and other remote areas of Akwa Ibom State.

Governor Emmanuel who made the call when he hosted the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Mike Igini, at Government House, Uyo,was confident that the expansion would ensure that those who may have lacked interest in the exercise due to the distance of registration venues from their locations, are accommodated.

Accreditation and voting are ongoing in polling units in Kware/Wamakko Federal constituency for the bye-elections in Sokoto State to replace the late Abdullahi Wamakko, a member of the House of Representatives.

Adequate number of security personnel have been drafted to all polling units where 22 political parties present candidates.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, Friday, ordered Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and three others to pay N40 million as damages to the President of Chocolate City Group, Audu Maikori.

Justice John Tsoho awarded the costs as compensation for what he ruled as Maikori’s unlawful arrest on and detention between February 17 and 18, and between March 10 and 13, 2017.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has described anti-corruption agencies Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), as “politicised and weakened.”

The former president also said that the massive corrupt tendencies of the nation’s educated leaders gave birth to the dreaded terrorist organisation, Boko Haram.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday received members of the National Committee of Buhari Support Group and commended the efforts of various groups working for the progress of his administration.

Buhari told the National Committee of Buhari Support Group, led by Sen. Abu Ibrahim, that posterity would reward their sacrifices for the peace, progress and prosperity of the nation.

Former President of the Senate, Sen. David Mark has again cautioned the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to avoid impunity and imposition of candidates during its national convention on Dec. 9.

Mark stressed on Thursday in Abuja that getting the convention right was the first step toward electoral victory in 2019.
