Ahead of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games has unveiled the signature torch that will be used as well as a set of 50 retro style pictograms, with the aim to pay homage to icons of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

The torch which will be used during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic resembles a traditional Japanese “Sakura-mon“ cherry blossom, a flower which arrives in March of every year and it's loved by all and sundry. The torch was formed using the same aluminum extrusion technology as Japan’s famous bullet trains.

Aluminum construction waste from temporary housing built following the Great East Japan Earthquake was used to make the torch, transforming the materials into a symbol of peace.

In addition to the cherry blossom, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic torch depicts the shape of a flame, with five flames rising from the petals to unite at the center.

Also, the pictograms which will be used was designed by famous Japanese graphic designer Masaaki Hiromura which was developed using the blue of the Tokyo 2020 emblems, the colors employed are deep red, royal blue, a cherry blossom pink, green and violet shade. The pictogram will represent all of the thirty-three (33) sports which will be embarked on.
