Chelsea have issued a statement condemning an offensive song composed by a section of fans targeting Tottenham fans. The song which was dedicated to Alvaro Morata has been viewed as anti-semitic. Recall that Tottenham Coach had revealed that the decision by Morata to dump Tottenham for Chelsea was because of Harry Kane.
Pochettino had claimed that Morata feared he might not have regular playing time in his team since Kane was more of a complete striker, hence his decision to sign for Chelsea. Lyrics of the song include “Alvaro Morata, he came from Real Madrid, he hates the f***ing Yids.”
90 Minutes sports reports that Yids” is an abusive anti-semitic slight, and Chelsea have worked to eradicate such chants in recent years.
Chelsea's statement read;
"The club and the players appreciate the fans' passionate support away from home, of course, but the language in that song is not acceptable at all," the club wrote in a statement. Alvaro does not want to be connected with that particular song in any way and both the player and the club request the supporters stop singing it with immediate effect."
Meanwhile Morata has also called on the fans to discontinue the chant, urging them to respect everyone.
His tweet read;
"Since I arrived, I have been able to feel your support every single day, you are amazing and I'd like to ask you to please respect everyone!"
