Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior has extended his contract at Real Madrid until June 2027, the La Liga giants announced on Tuesday. Vinicius, 23, joined Madrid in 2018 from Brazilian club Flamingo and has developed into one of the League's standout players, scoring the winning goal in last year's Champions League final against Liverpool.

His existing contract was due to expire at the end of this season.

It was reported by the local media that an extension had already been agreed last year, but, it was only made official on Tuesday.

The club confirmed the 23-year-old contract renewal via an official statement which reads, “Real Madrid and Vini Jr. have reached an agreement to extend the player’s contract, linking him to the club until 30 June 2027,”

As per the update, Real Madrid proposed a renewal until 2028 for the Brazilian, but he preferred to extend only until 2026 or 2027, and the latter was agreed upon in the end.

Furthermore, Vinicius’ release clause has skyrocketed from €350 million to €1 billion as part of the new contract, while his salary has risen from €3.2 million to €10 million plus bonuses.

Vinicius’ contract extension comes just a day after he won the Socrates Award at the Ballon d’Or Gala for his contributions to the fight against racism and helping education in his homeland.

One of the best forwards in the world, the 23-year-old is seen as the face of this Real Madrid team and was even handed the iconic No. 7 kit this season.
