Considering the successes recorded in Diaspora enrolment which kicked off in South Africa early this month, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is set to extent the program to include United Arab Emirate (UAE) and United Kingdom (UK) based Nigerians.
Engr. Aliyu Aziz, the Commission Director General/CEO made the declaration on Monday, in his words, “The extension is in line with NIMC’s mandate to ensure that all Nigerian citizens in Nigeria and the Diaspora and Legal Residents in Nigeria are enrolled into the National Identity Database and issued the unique National Identification Number (NIN) to applicants upon successful enrolment”,
According to the NIMC Boss, the NIN enrolment in UAE and the UK will be in collaboration with the Defcon System Limited and the National eAuthentication Limited (NeAL), they are the two Nigerian companies licensed by NIMC to act as its Agents, and also carry out enrolment services across the globe with the view of ensuring the services are best carried out with inclusiveness.
He added, ‘’the exercise will involve the demographic and biometric data capture of all Nigerian citizens residing in the two countries. The UAE programme is scheduled to take off on Tuesday 26th March, 2019 at the Online Integrated Solutions DMCC office, 22nd Floor, Silver Tower, cluster I, Jumeirah Lake Towers Dubai, UAE.
‘’While the UK programme will take off on Friday 29th March 2019 at the Online Integrated Solutions offices as follow:
1. OIS services, 56/57 Fleet street London EC4Y IJU, UK; and
2. OIS Services, St. Georges House, 6 St Georges Way, Leicester LE1 1SH, UK’’, he said.
Mr. Aziz further stated that the programme will pave way for Nigerians in Diaspora to be identified as certified citizens of the Federal Government of Nigeria, couple with the fact that the central Govt has made the possession of NIN a mandatory prerequisite for elections, bank account opening, land transactions, access to legal/health services, acquisition/renewal of the International Passport, driver’s license and the ECOWAS travel document, amongst others.
