While the rest Africa is losing about 8% of its elephant population every year, authorities in Zimbabwe say they have too many elephants and are struggling to cope.
The Zimbabwean national parks have a capacity of 50,000 elephants, but the population now stands at 83,000.
Parks authorities say the elephants require large quantities of water and vegetation for food.
The situation has sparked caused conflicts with surrounding communities as the elephants compete for water and invade maize fields in search of food.
