Global Obesity

More than 2 billion adults and children globally are overweight or obese and suffer health problems because of their weight, a new study reports.
This equates to one-third of the world's population carrying excess weight, fueled by urbanisation, poor diets and reduced physical activity.

The Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr Margaret Chan has stated that tobacco is a threat to all of humanity, as its farming, processing and consumption increases poverty and reduces the quality of life. Chan made the disclosure in a press release to marks the World No Tobacco Day.

The United Nations through its agency, United Nation Children's Fund (UNICEF) has decried the rate of violence against children in the country. The Chief of UNICEF, Bauchi Field Office, Abdulai Kai made this known yesterday in Bauchi, during a press briefing organized to commemorate this year's children's day celebration.

The Federal Ministry Ministry of Health has announced that international heath donor agency, the Global Fund, will continue its support for the country in the areas of funding, drugs and research development against  killer diseases, notably AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

The Aguma of Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Magaji Mohammed has lamented the spate of growing mortality rate in the area, calling on government to urgently address the concern by increasing budgetary allocation to the health sector to improve child and family health services rendered across health facilities in the country.
