Fire Guts Onitsha Main Market

In the early hours of Tuesday, a section of the Onitsha Market in Anambra State was engulfed in an inferno that destroyed goods worth millions of naira. According to reports, the most affected block is a two-storey building housing the Onitsha main market Police Station and shops selling lace fabrics.

One Dead As Protest Erupts In Lafia

A deadly demonstration erupts in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital, on 20th March 2023 as the indigenes have taken to the streets to express their displeasure over the outcome of the just concluded Gubernatorial election in the state. Reports have it that one person has been reportedly killed, while some others were wounded with various degrees of injury after the demonstration became violent in various streets of the town. An eyewitness account stated that the protesters also engaged in acts of vandalism and destruction of public and private property.

Breaking: Pro-Biafran Agitator, Ekpa Arrested By Finland Authorities

Finland authorities have allegedly arrested a popular pro-Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, who ordered for sit-at-home in the South-East of Nigeria during the upcoming elections. With barely 48 hours to the Nigerian presidential and national assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, February 25, Ekpa was arrested in his residence in Lahti, Finland, according to the Finnish news outlet Helsingin Sanomat (HS). HS claimed they went to Ekpa’s apartment to conduct an interview with the Biafra separatist but met plain clothes operatives from the Finnish police, Keskusrikospolissi (KRP) in Ekpa’s apartment, who told the news outlet that the interview would be moved “to the future”.

NBC To Shutdown Stations Threatening Peaceful Coexistence

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued warnings to broadcast stations that air programmes capable of undermining peaceful co-existence will not hesitate to shut or revoke their licences. The commission then went on to state that any further breaches of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code and Act will no longer be tolerated.

Ahead of the upcoming elections scheduled to commence on Saturday, February 25, 2023, the Nigerian Army (NA) has published a list of contact numbers for members of the public to report any election-related security issue. This was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu.
