The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the contract for the provision of the independent power supply (at N61 per kilowatt/hour) to the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja. The Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the council’s first meeting of the year presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

 The embattled Chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, has challenged his being declared a wanted person for corruption allegations before the Federal High Court in Abuja. In the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1174/2017, Maina argued that EFCC's publication of his name and picture in a newspaper advertisement on November 7, 2017, declaring him wanted, was a violation of his rights to dignity of person.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has warned politicians to desist from politicizing recent killings across some states of the federation. The Vice President made the call on Sunday in Abuja at the Inter-denominational church service for the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration. He explained that the current administration has observed with dismay that some people are exploiting the situation in Benue, Rivers, Adamawa and Plateau to score cheap political gains.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Ahmed Rufai Abubakar as the new Director General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). Abubakar, a retired career Foreign Service officer, has been a Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Foreign Affairs/International Relations.

A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Mi-17 Helicopter has crashed while undertaking a mission in the ongoing counterinsurgency operation in the North East. The Director Public Relations and Information, NAF Air Vice Marshal, Olatokunbo Adesanya said the incident, which occurred on Monday, resulted in significant damage to the helicopter.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, has said that the Federal Government would rehabilitate and empower 490 Nigerians evacuated from Libya. Onyeama gave the assurance on the arrival of the returnees at Port Harcourt Airport in Rivers. He said that President Muhammadu Buhari had made resources available to ensure that returnees were evacuated as quickly as possible and enable them fit back into the society.
