The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday warned State Chairmen of the party in Lagos, Oyo and River states against inaugurating the elected executive members, following the non-resolution of the attendant crisis that characterized the conduct of the congresses.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi stated this in a phone conversation with Punch. He said the party took the decision to allow for harmonization and reconciliation.
“The case of Lagos is clearly a constitutional matter. We set up a committee to consider the report of the congresses held there. Of course, we overruled those who conducted their congress in 57 local government areas, because the constitution only recognizes 20 local governments.”
Speaking also in Abuja at the inauguration of some State Excos, the National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun said
“There is a serious need for quick reconciliation especially in Rivers, Taraba, Oyo, Delta, Lagos and others. Let the chairmen here wait and should not inaugurate their excos like the others until the issues with the congresses in such states are resolved.
“I’m going to set up a committee headed by the Deputy National Chairman, (North) to study the situations in such states for possible actions. There will be concessions and harmonisation after the exercise within this week.”
