The Presidential Election Tribunal sitting at the court of Appeal in Abuja has advised, Atiku Abubakar and his party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to follow due process by formally forwarding an application demanding the stepping aside of Justice Bulkacuwa on their case.
Both the PDP and Atiku had earlier demanded Justice Bulkachuwa to excuse herself on presiding over the panel that will determine the petition filed by both parties challenging the victory of President Buhari in the 2019 General Election.
The PDP and Atiku throw their weight behind Justice Bulkachuwa’s husband as a Senator-elect under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
As the presiding judges converged at the court chamber about yesterday, Mrs. Bulkachuwa opined that the issue being raised by the PDP counsel, Levy Ozuukwu on demanding her stepping aside, she revealed that since their demand was no longer private; she suggested they be formally put in writing as a formal document.
Subsequently, the court will consider it and get back to both parties in one week time through the rules of the court.
However, counsel to President Buhari, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and INEC, Ynus Ustas (SAN) all objected to the oral application rather demanded it in writing.
Consequently, the sitting has been adjoined to May, 22 for the next hearing.
The tribunal also granted leave to the Coalition for Change (C4C) and its presidential candidate, Geff Chizee Ojinka to serve the processes of its petition to president Buhari and the APC at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
