The Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has broken silence over the fracas that has been bedeviling the main opposition, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) shortly after the conduct of the presidential primary election. Last week, the PDP presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar granted a media interview with Arise Television, where Atiku was quoted to have said his choice of running mate was guided by the person who would deliver. Atiku during the interview said, “Wike was not rejected “nobody was rejected at the party.

But you must understand that it’s the prerogative of the candidate to pick his running mate — a running mate he believes he can work with amicably, and then also deliver the policies of the party, and also try to unify the country,”

Commenting about the Rivers State Governor, Atiku added, “Governor Wike is a brilliant politician. He’s courageous and tenacious. I believe he has a future in the political evolution of this country. It’s not a question of rejection. “

Certainly not. I think it’s too harsh a word to say that we rejected governor Wike.”

However, reacting to the PDP presidential candidate while at the Port Harcourt airport today, Wike revealed that Atiku lied about his choice of Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.

Wike added that Atiku lied about many things, especially about the delegation he claimed he send to him during the interview which he would not like to go into details for now, but it will soon come to the open.

Although he disclosed that former Senate president Bukola Saraki meet him in Spain, that was in a personal capacity.

“He [Atiku] appeared before Arise Television, see the statements he made. So many lies were told,” the Rivers governor said.
“I am not a slave and will not be a slave. I am freeborn of the country,” Mr. Wike said.

It was learned that the Rivers state governor will be meeting his team to decide a way forward by this weekend.
