Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has criticised the commitment of the Federal Government in cleaning up oil spillage in Ogoni land.

Mr Wike lamented that nothing was on the ground to show that the exercise is work-in-progress.

The governor complained about the state of work done so far on Monday, while receiving senators on an oversight function in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi, commenced three-day training on Information Communication Technology (ICT) for its staff in the state.

Prof. Godswill Obioma, the State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), who declared the workshop open, said that the initiative was to train and equip the staff with basic knowledge of computer and application of ICT.

According to him, the training is part of strategies being put in place to ensure credible, free, fair and efficient conduct of the 2019 general elections.

The 300,000 candidates pre-selected under the Federal Government’s N-Power Scheme will undergo its physical verification phase from Dec. 4 to Dec. 14 in the 774 local government areas of the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation/Youth Employment, Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede said the verification would be done with the N-Power stakeholders in the states such as the National Orientation Agency, N-Power State team, National Assembly Monitors and Observers.

Imoukhuede explained that pre-selection could not be equated to final recruitment as those who fell short of the verification criteria and made faulty declarations in their applications would still be disqualified.

The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, less two days after the agency announced that it has secured a court warrant to detain him for 30 days.

Reports by Channels Television claim that the former SGF has been instructed to report to the commission every two weeks after meeting his bail conditions.

APC Not Worried About Atiku’s Resignation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the party, saying it is not worried. APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi, said this on Friday while addressing reporters in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed Jan. 13, 2018 for the conduct of the rerun Anambra Central Senatorial District election.

The seat became vacant following the nullification of the 2015 election for the position by an election tribunal.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Monday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct re-run election within 90 days of the judgment.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has insisted that no amount of blackmail and propaganda will stop him from reforming education in the state.

The governor said this on Thursday in Abuja during a regular consultative meeting with members of the National Assembly from Kaduna State, Channels Television reports.

His statement comes amid the controversy and criticism that have trailed the decision of the state government to sack about 22,000 teachers who failed the competency test conducted for them in June.
