Former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ben Obi says the party must pick its Vice President from the South East to stand a chance of winning the 2019 general elections.

Senator Obi stated this while reacting to the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the presidential Flagbearer of the party. Speaking to Vanguard, Obi said claims that the party would pick its Vice from the South West were false, as the matter had earlier been decided. He explained that one of the recommendations of the committee headed by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, which has been adopted by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party stressed that the party must select its Vice President from the region.

“After the 2015 election, the party set up the Ekweremadu Committee. The Committee recommended that the party should zone the presidency to the North and the vice presidency to the South-East. The National Working Committee endorsed the recommendations of the committee.”
