Former Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, said poor management of governance has given rise to the worsening insecurity that has continued unabated in Nigeria. Jega made these remarks yesterday while delivering a keynote address during the pre-inaugural lecture organized in honor of the Niger state Governor-elect, Umar Bago Mohammed. The former INEC boss explained that the current prevailing security challenges being faced by Nigerians in recent years are a product of complex diversity accompanied by heightened mobilization of ethnoreligious identities being orchestrated by bad politicians during political campaigns.
He laments that the number of casualties of the menace has continued unabated ranging from human abduction to banditry, calling on government at all levels to live up to their expectation to tame the tide.
Another guest speaker at the event was the immediate presidential candidate for the New Nigerians People’s Party, NNPP, who is also a former governor of kano state, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who called on the Governor-elect to be careful with the immediate person around him while he is into the business of Governance.
Being the chairman of the gathering, Kwankwaso, pointed out that lack of competence coupled with poor knowledge of governance was responsible for the failure of most Governors who got elected into office by the people.
He called on the Governor-elect to run an inclusive administration as it is a sure way of reducing tension in governance, especially in communities with diverse cultures like Niger State.
