Senate President Godswill Akpabio has disclosed that the suspension slammed on the Senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi, over budget padding allegation will be lifted soon. Recall that the red chamber had slammed a three-month suspension on senator Abdul Ningi over his claim of budget padding amounting N3.7trn and discrepancies in the 2024 budget. However, Mr Ningi, who kicked against his suspension, described it as illegal and grand-standing by the leadership of Akpabio.
In his letter addressed to the Senate President through his lawyer, Femi Falana, the lawmaker issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Senate leadership to lift his suspension or face legal action.
Meanwhile, speaking while fielding questions from newsmen upon arrival from the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, Mr Akpabio said, “I believe that in a few days, he will join us.”
Although, the Senate president insisted he was yet to see Mr. Ningi’s letter however, the matter will be resolved amicably.
In his statement; “It is a parliamentary decision. I have not seen the letter yet. But Senator Ningi is one of us. I mean what is suspension? I believe that in a few days, he will join us.
“So, there is no problem. It would be resolved amicably. The Senate is a family.”
