The Nigerian Communications Commission [NCC] on Monday disclosed that South African owned Mobile Telecommunication giant, MTN Nigeria, has so far paid N165 billion out of the N300 billion fines slammed on the company for SIM registration infractions in 2015. The NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, disclosed this when the MTN Group led by its Chairman in Nigeria, Pascal Dozie, paid a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

An eastern Chinese city is now instructing its shops and restaurants to swap their Wi-Fi routers for government-approved routers or else pay a penalty. Stores located in Qingdao, Shandong Province will have to pay up to ¥100,000 ($18,589) if they don’t comply, according to Abacus.

Shops and cafes that offer Wi-Fi hotspots have received a notice from police to “improve Qingdao’s internet security management” by switching routers.

Abacus learned that the brand of router was Bihu (BHU), with the name roughly translating to Necessary Tiger.

BlackBerry has filed a complaint against Snap accusing the company of infringing its patented messaging technology in the Snapchat app. The complaint, which runs a hefty 71 pages, accuses Snap of infringing six patents including map improvements for mobile devices, advertising techniques, and UI improvements for mobile devices.

Google owned YouTube has been accused of violating child protection laws in the US, by a collection of 23 consumer, child safety and privacy advocacy groups.

The coalition has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alleging that YouTube collects data, and the browsing habits of its users, even if they are children under 13 years, and uses it to target advertising.

"YouTube was skirting the law and profiting off of children without parents' knowledge or consent".

Cambridge Analytica used graphic anti-Islamic images in 2015 to influence the presidential election in Nigeria, according to video obtained by The Guardian and testimony by whistleblower Christopher Wylie. The video showed violent images of people getting their throats cut and being burned, in an effort to paint the eventually victorious Muhammadu Buhari as an Islamic extremist.

After much fanfare, the rogue Chinese space station Tiangong-1 finally plunged through Earth’s atmosphere somewhere over the southern Pacific Ocean at 8:16 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday.

According to the Joint Force Space Component Command in a news release posted on Twitter, Tiangong-1 which means “Heavenly Palace” burst into flames and tiny pieces as it made its long-anticipated descent.

It was an anticlimactic finale, as space agencies had warned of the falling space debris about the size of a school bus since China lost contact with it in September 2016.
