Global music streaming provider Spotify has herald its entry into the African music scene with the launch of its services in South Africa, where there is rapid uptake of smartphones and improving telecommunications infrastructure. The Swedish company, launched in 2008 and available in more than 60 countries, is the biggest music streaming company in the world and counts services from Apple Inc, Amazon.com Inc and Alphabet Inc’s Google Play as its main rivals.

Twitter now looks set to clamp down against cryptocurrency scams, banning advertisements left, right and centre. The social media giant is cracking down on scam accounts, however it seems legitimate crypto enthusiasts have been caught in the crossfire. As it stands, Twitter has left alone cryptocurrency and ICO advertisements on the basis that none of them had been breaching the social media’s policy on ads.

BlackBerry yesterday filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Facebook and its WhatsApp and Instagram apps, arguing that they copied technology and features from BlackBerry Messenger. Litigation over patent infringement is part of BlackBerry Chief Executive John Chen’s strategy for making money for the company, which has lost market share in the smartphone market it once dominated.

Apple Inc on Monday, announce that it has signed an agreement to acquire digital magazine subscription service texture, available on ipad, iphone and other devices.

According to Apple, the digital magazine service Texture, which will be integrated it into Apple news, lets users read titles for a monthly subscription fee.

Apple's services chief Eddy Cue, who revealed the news at the SXSW media festival in Austin, Texas Monday said: "We're excited Texture will join Apple, along with an impressive catalog of magazines from many of the world's leading publishers. We are committed to quality journalism from trusted sources and allowing magazines to keep producing beautifully designed and engaging stories for users."

Microsoft is once again selling its own custom version of Samsung’s Galaxy S9. The handset is available in Microsoft Stores in the US, and will ship with some customizations from Microsoft. “A Microsoft customization is applied to the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus Microsoft Edition when the devices are unboxed and connected to Wi-Fi,” says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to TrustedReviews.

Chinese social media network WeChat, which is used for everything from chatting with friends to booking travel and making payments, has reached 1 billion user accounts globally, reports the Financial Times. The sheer number of accounts demonstrates the app’s dominance, though it’s important to note that user accounts means the number of accounts, not individual people.
