Nigerian Government has introduced biometric visa issuance, the first in Africa, designed to effectively block many people that would not need to enter the country. The introduction of biometric visa was announced by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Mr Abubakar Magaji, at the 2017 End-of-Year Dinner and Award Night of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Abuja on Monday. He represented the Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), at the occasion.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Monday declared the seat for the Kogi East senatorial district vacant. The judgement was delivered by Justice Abdul Aboki on a pre-election matter instituted before the appellate court. He ruled that the Certificate of Return issued to the sacked senator is no longer valid. The judge also ordered that the senator should cease from parading himself as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as his seat has been declared vacant.

The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has distributed N609.95 billion ($1.69bn) to Federal, States and Local Government as revenue generated in November. This is N77.25 billion more than what they shared in October, Mr Ahmed Idris, the Accountant-General of the Federation said. The distribution is also timely as it will enable states and local councils to pay workers ahead of Christmas, in the opinion of the Chairman, Commissioners of Finance Forum, Mr Mahmoud Yunusa.

The Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa has debunked media reports that the visit of the governors of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal and his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike few days after the conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention was politically motivated. Governor Okowa who made the clarification on Monday while briefing newsmen at the fourth quarterly interactive session in Asaba, said the reports were skewed by mischief makers and detractors.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the state governors that have received the final tranche of the Paris Club refund to prioritize the payment of salary arrears owed workers as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari to enable workers to celebrate the yuletide.
The statement is coming two days after the Ministry of Finance confirmed the release of the final tranche of the Paris Club refund to some state governments.

The Air Component of the Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has commenced an intensive bombardment of the hideouts of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in Borno State and the Sambisa general area in an operation codenamed Operation ‘RUWAN WUTA 3’. The Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, NAF, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbor Adesanya said on the first day of the Operation, an air interdiction mission was conducted on a BHT hideout in Kolaram, which is 37km East of Monguno.
