The Senate today resolved to suspend consideration of all nominees sent to it by the executive for confirmation. The resolution was sequel to a motion on privilege moved by Ahmed Yerima, Senator representing Zamfara West.
Yerima wondered why Acting President Yemi Osinbajo would send a nominee to the Senate after he reportedly said that the upper legislative chamber did not have the power of confirmation.
Presidency And The Senate On War Path Over Confirmation Of Appointees
The Nigerian Senate has said it will disregard all correspondences from the Presidency, especially those requesting for the confirmation of appointments into the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA). The Senators issued the threat after the Senate President, Bukola Saraki read a letter from the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo requesting the confirmation of Lanre Gbajabiamila as the Chairman of the National Lottery Commission.

The factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmed Markafi has lent his voice and support to the growing call for the restructuring of Nigeria. The former Kaduna state governor added that it is wrong for anyone or leader to dismiss the clamour for a restructuring.
887 Nigerians Repatriated From Cameroon
The Cameroonian government has repatriated about 887 Nigerian refugees who escaped to the country due to the activities of Boko Haram. The External Relation Officer of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR), Hanson Tamfu made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
Fayose Sacks Cabinet
Ekiti State Governor Peter Ayo Fayose, has dissolved his entire cabinet. Lere Olayinka, Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communication and New Media in a statement said Fayose issued a directive to dissolve his cabinet.
He directed all the commissioners to handover to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries.
Yoruba Leaders to FG: Implement 2014 Confab Report
Prominent leaders of Yoruba race under the auspices of Yoruba Leadership and Peace Initiative have called on the Federal Government to earnestly begin the process of implementing the 2014 National Conference report before 2019 general elections.
The suggestion was made on Thursday in Ibadan, Oyo State capital at a unity retreat organised the leaders.
UNHCR To Discontinue Aid To Nigerian Refugees
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced its decision to discontinue provision of aid to Nigerian refuges. The UNHCR representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Antonio Canhandula made the disclosure on Wednesday during an interactive session with some refugees from Niger, Cameroun and Sudan in Lagos.
