FEC Approves National Online Policy To Protect Children

The Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Wednesday, deliberated on a national online policy to protect children from accessing unwholesome information on the internet. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, who presented the memo for deliberations at FEC, said it became necessary to protect the rights of children who access the internet to gather information. Pantami said it has become a global requirement, in line with a policy document released by the international telecommunications union (of which Nigeria is a member) on keeping children safe in the digital era.

Amazon To Cut 18,000 Jobs To Reduce Cost

One of the prominent online retailers, Amazon will be laying off more than 18,000 workers in cost-cutting initiatives as the world recession looms, most of the job losses will come from its consumer retail business and its human resource division. This was revealed by the company's chief executive officer Andy Jassy on 5th January 2023 noting that it's a difficult decision to take on the massive job cut. He claimed “the uncertain economy” and the fact Amazon had “hired rapidly over the last several years” meant internal reviews recommended the company scrap more than 18,000 roles.

President Muhummadu Buhari has approved with immediate effect, the appointment of Engr. Tukur Funtua, as the new Managing Director (MD) of Nigeria Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT), following the retirement of the agency’s MD, Dr. Abimbola Alale. WhatsApp To Stop Working On Over 47 Mobile Phones

WhatsApp will cease to function on 49 makes of phone, including the iPhone 5 and 5c along with several Android models from Samsung, Huawei and LG. People with older iPhone and Android models will be unable to use the popular messaging app after December 31 without getting an upgrade. While these phone models have not been phased out and are still very much in the market, the WhatsApp upgrade will, however, affect them as their operating systems will not be compatible with WhatsApp’s new features. It was gathered that users will be notified with a warning message before the app stops working.

Project Monitoring And Evaluation: President Buhari Launches App, Website

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday launched the National Monitoring and Evaluation mobile App, EYE MARK, and a website www.eyemark.ng shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to the President, it will foster citizens’ participation in governance, adding that the Federal Government would no longer be dependent on its monitoring and evaluation teams to oversee the large amount of infrastructure projects nationwide.
