President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate, requesting for the screening and subsequent confirmation of former Inspector- General of Police, IGP, Musiliu Adeola Smith as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, PSC.
Smith, representing South West was the Police boss in Nigeria between May 1999 to March 2002 and if approved by the Senate, he would replace a former inspector- General of Police, Sir Mike Mbama Okiro.
The letter was read to the Senators, yesterday, by Senate President Bukola Saraki, during plenary.
Bauchi Governor Accepts Resignation Of Deputy
Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi has accepted the resignation of his deputy, Alhaji Nuhu Gidado, who turned in his letter of resignation on Wednesday.
In a statement issued on his behalf by Mr Ali M. Ali, Special Adviser, Media, the governor described the tenure of his deputy as “meritorious” and therefore deserving of “commendation”.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has commended Nigeria’s leading role in the fight against corruption in Africa. Guterres made the commendation in his remarks at High-level Debate Marking the 15th Anniversary of Adoption of UN Convention Against Corruption in New York. The secretary-general pointed out that through Nigeria’s anti-money laundering efforts, stolen funds had been returned.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, has expressed confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari will emerge victorious in the 2019 general elections.
The minister made this known on Tuesday while inspecting the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ilorin road in Oyo state.
“We are so confident that our re-election would be easy,” he said.
Metuh Decided To Fall Down On His Own – Justice Abang
Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Okon Abang, says Olisa Metuh, former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), fell in court “on his own.”
Metuh was said to have collapsed in the court while he was making his way to the dock on Monday.
The incident made the presiding judge to rise briefly while Metuh received medical attention.
